CIV USA-García Carrión has a storied history that began over 130 years ago in the Jumilla region of Spain, where the García Carrión family first embarked on their winemaking journey. As vineyard owners, the family recognized their fertile land’s potential and began producing and selling wine from their own grapes.
The demand for Spanish wine grew rapidly, particularly in France, where vineyards were devastated by the phylloxera infestation. In 1890, the García Carrión family decided to expand, building a large-scale winery to help meet the increasing demand. This marked the beginning of their rise as one of Spain’s premier wine producers.
Over five generations, the García Carrión family has maintained an unwavering commitment to quality and innovation. This dedication has transformed CIV USA-García Carrión into the largest winery in Europe and one of the top four globally. The company’s success is rooted in its deep respect for tradition, combined with a forward-thinking approach that embraces both modern winemaking techniques and sustainable practices.
Today, CIV USA-García Carrión’s vineyards are strategically located throughout Spain in its most prestigious wine regions, each known for its unique terroir and grape varieties. This includes Rioja, one of the most famous wine regions in the world; Ribera del Duero located in Spain’s northern plateau; Penedés, famous for its sparkling Cava; Valdepeñas, known for its continental climate and high limestone soil; and Jumilla, where the family’s winemaking legacy began.
Currently, under the leadership of José García Carrión and his son Luciano, CIV USA-García Carrión continues to thrive on the global stage. It remains a symbol of Spanish winemaking at its best, bringing the flavors of Spain to wine lovers around the world.
