Don Simon has in Huelva a unique plant in the world, surrounded by oranges to be able to squeezed, in less than 24 hours, one by one the oranges just picked from the tree. This integrate agriculture is a pioneer project in an international level.
The company owns 1,500 hectares of orange crops and has long-term contracts with local farmers to ensure consistent quality. It can process over 2,000 tons of fruit daily, storing juice in 12 aseptic tanks, each with a capacity of 4 million liters at 4°C, preserving juice properties. It operates 5 aseptic bottling lines at 24,000 bottles per hour and has a refrigerated, automated warehouse for 14,000 pallets.
The plant is committed to environmental care. It uses orange peel to produce animal pellets and extracts essential oils, reducing waste. Biomass fuels, such as olive stones and almond shells, provide sustainable energy. Minimal pesticides are used, making the crops almost organic, and water and energy consumption are reduced.
Sewage is treated with advanced technology, ensuring it can be reused for irrigation. Additionally, 250 hectares are reserved as a nature sanctuary for the great bustard, a protected species.
In 2001, the company signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with regular audits guiding CO2 reduction efforts.
The Huelva plant meets top international food safety standards, including BRC and IFS certifications, and has consistently achieved the highest ratings over the past three years. In 2010, it also obtained ISO 9001 certification.
